NEWS FROM THE 2004 ALL ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS

STRINGING ACTIVITY HITS AT HIGH at the All England Championships 2004

The 2004 All England saw the stringing service hit an un-precedented level of activity. With 745 racquets being handed in for restringing, it reflected an increase of nearly 60% on the previous highest year (2000 - 470).

Although records have kept of racquet volumes since 1999, details on tensions and string type have not been recorded.

At this years Olympics a new recording system will be used that will provide all the information by Country. This information will be available on this web site late this year.

Factors that contributed to this years high activity levels are:
  • Poor string service at previous weeks tournament
  • Larger than usual Asian squads due to Olympic qualifying points available
  • Launch of the new Yonex Armortec 800 racquets

Players are also changing their choice of strings. Prior to 2002, BG65 (0.70mm) was by far the most popular string, but the demand has now moved to thinner strings, especially BG80 and BG65 Ti (0.68mm)
